Hi! My name is Mung Lai Lee, founder of the sweetstrend.com I began my baking journey with a curiosity of the colorful macaron. After graduating with a degree in Web Design in 2015, I couldn’t find a job that would allow me to work and take care of an infant at the same time, and decided to be a full-time mom. One day, I was searching for a cookie recipe, and popped up these beautiful, colorful cookies that they were not familiar to me. I asked my husband if he had any idea what they were. He told me that they are French Macarons. They were gorgeous, and decided I was going to make some. He looked at me with those surprised eyes and said, “those have a reputation of being very hard to bake.” Too bad! I have my life principle: “there is nothing impossible if you don’t try.” With curiosity and determination, I bought all the ingredients and did my first try. It turned out just like what my husband said; these are very hard to bake. Well, I didn’t give up because of my failure on my first try. Just the opposite, it made me more curious “WHY?!” What was the secret to the perfect macaron? I spent the following 3 months watching YouTube, reading articles, and testing how to make it right every day. I can't begin to tell you how much batter, and resulting product, I threw out. I experienced any and all failures that could happen to a macaron if you don’t make it just right – batter flattening and spread out too much, cracking, tall “feet”, under and overbaking … etc. Thanks to the failures and my “never give up” principles, I figured out and, most importantly, could recognize the conditions I needed, and finally achieved success. However, compared to more experienced bakeries, I still had a long way to go. Lastly, macarons gave me a chance from curiosity to start my own business and founded my first own brand name SweetsTrend.com. Since I enjoyed web design, it wasn’t hard for me to create a website and start selling my sweet treats online. Since starting my business, I’ve been searching the newest dessert trends every day. Hot cocoa bombs was another hot trend I immediately started to learn to make, and compared to macarons, started selling in no time. Two years have passed, and I've expanded to homemade marshmallow, meringues and various types of traditional cookies, and cake pops as well. The most fun part about my business is using my artistic talents to customize my treats to fit what customers need. I’ve created more than 50 different kinds of macarons and 30 different kinds of hot cocoa bomb flavors. How exciting and fun! My hard work is paying off. I have sold thousands of hand-made macarons, and hundreds of other cookies, hot cocoa bombs, and other trendy sweets. Because of the Fountain Hills Marketplace, I’ve had my name spread out not only across Fountain Hills, but North Scottsdale where I am fulfilling more and more orders. Summer is here, and will only get hotter. Hot cocoa bombs won’t be enjoyable in this blistering Arizona sun; cool drinks are what’s needed. My next trend target is Boba tea. Growing up in Hong Kong, boba tea is not strange to me. You can find a boba tea shop within minutes of pointing in any direction. They make those hot, humid days disappear when you are enjoying it. My boba tea will be just like any of my other sweet treats with a big range of flavors and any ingredient you’d like; tea or coffee, coconut milk, fruit juice and flavored syrups, jellies or pudding, sago, tapioca pearl...etc. Customized however you want. My personal favorite is mango sago.
